Knowledge about lead sealing fee

Container Sealing Fees and Bolt Seals

Fee vs. Charge

In shipping documentation, “Fee” (e.g., professional service fee, tip) and “Charge” (e.g., Handling Fee/Charge, Pickup Fee/Charge) are interchangeable terms.

SealFee (Lead Sealing Fee)

Common in full container shipping, but not all carriers charge it separately—some bundle it with other fees.

Also known as “bolt seal fee” in freight forwarding.

Bolt Seal Features

Made of high-strength steel for security.

One-time use: Once locked, it cannot be reopened without destructive cutting.

Tamper-proof: Unlike older lead seals, bolt seals cannot be restored after manipulation.

Unique numbering: Each seal has an ID for tracking and verification.

Purpose

Acts as a one-time lock after container loading, ensuring no unauthorized access during transit if:

The seal number matches documentation.

The container door seal is properly closed.

The seal and container exterior remain intact.

Applications

Beyond shipping containers, seals are used for:

Customs and commodity inspections (official seals).

Commercial security (container seals).
